WHY ARE YOU CRYING?
I met teacher librarian Kyra Richardson and her son Nakoa in May of 2013 when I did a school visit in Chattaroy, WA. We talked about where my books come from and I said I was working on a book about ghosts. That's when Kyra shared her other worldly story. Here it is in her own words.
"I was in the attic of our 1910 home, and my son, Nakoa, who was about a year old, was in his crib (on the main floor of the house), crying. Since I had already fed him, changed his diaper, and rocked him, I knew he was okay and was trying to let him sooth himself to sleep.
"Suddenly, over the baby monitor, I heard a child's voice say, 'Why are you crying?,' and the baby immediately stopped. I knew nobody else was in the house, I would have heard somebody enter our creaky, old house. I was totally freaked out, but I eventually crept downstairs, heart pounding, to check on Nakoa. He was awake and calm and all by himself.
"My husband had told me about his own ghost encounters in that house, but I had never really believed him until that day."
-- Kyra Richardson
Kyra and her family no longer live in the haunted house. But she never forgot the strange experience, or how it made her wonder, just who was the ghostly child comforting her baby? And what could it all mean?
